Zebulon, 12 miles to the northwest, is home to the current
Double A Southern League baseball champions, the Carolina

Wilson, 30 miles to the east of Clayton, is home to
a significant number of fine antique dealers such as The
Fulford Antique Warehouse, Bobby Langston Antiques, Boone’s
Antiques and the Greater Wilson Antique Market (mall)
to name a few. Wilson is home to America’s largest
tobacco market and daily market tours are available for
your enjoyment. The Wilson
Rose Garden, an All America Rose Selections Public Garden
that has over 1,100 rose plants for your enjoyment is
located in the
heart of Wilson.
Smithfield, 10 miles to the southeast, is Johnston County’s
county seat, as well as the home to the Ava Gardner Museum and
the Johnston County Heritage Center that houses several collections
on local history and genealogy for the county.
Raleigh, 15 miles to the northwest, is the North Carolina
State Capitol, and is where the Governor’s Executive Mansion
is located. The North Carolina Museum of Art, Museum of History,
Museum of Natural History, The Joel Lane Museum House and Haywood
Hall are all located in downtown Raleigh. In addition, The Raleigh
City Museum and Exploris (an interactive museum about the world)
are also in the heart of downtown Raleigh.
All of these venues are well worth exploring and are
quite enjoyable for a day trip around the Triangle.
The Flipside is a unique nightspot just down the street from the Inn. They serve lunch & dinner Tuesday through Saturday and have some of the finest light rock, folk and blue grass music around for you to enjoy on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The Coffee Mill is a terrific place to get some of the best coffee in Johnston County. They also serve lunch Monday through Saturday with splendid menu you just have to try.
Jeme's Downtown Café is open for lunch Tuesday through Saturday and they serve a wide variety of delicious sandwiches, soups and salads to satisfy your hunger pains.
Main Steak Bistro has a wide array of salivating selections that include beef, chicken and seafood. They also have several Italian dishes that are hard to resist.
The Pink Teacup is open for lunch Tuesday through Saturday and has a vast array of teas for your enjoyment. In addition they serve a wonderful selection of tea sandwiches and salads.
Allium Bistro in Southern Village is a cozy dining experience that has varied assortments to choose from, all of which are quite delicious. There are selections to satisfy everyone's pallet.
